Today, India proudly marks its 79th Independence Day, commemorating the historic liberation from British rule in 1947. The nation united under the tricolor, embracing not only remembrance but also fresh visions of progress and strength.
A Grand Start at Red Fort
At the break of dawn, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to Father of the Nation at Rajghat before making his way to the Red Fort for the momentous flag hoisting ceremony. A heartfelt Guard of Honour preceded the unfurling of the Tricolor, accompanied by a stirring rendition of the National Anthem and a 21-gun salute.
In a breathtaking military spectacle, two Mi-17 helicopters soared above the fort—one trailing flower petals over the assembly, the other bearing a banner commemorating “Operation Sindoor”, India’s triumphant response to recent cross-border terrorism.
A Record-Breaking Speech Filled with Bold Vision
PM Modi’s address—a record-breaking 103 minutes, surpassing his own previous longest—spanned national security, technology, governance, and inclusive growth.
He opened with a tribute to freedom fighter Sri Aurobindo on his birth anniversary, and honored Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee on his 125th birthday—linking past sacrifices with today’s aspirations.
Among his bold announcements:
- India will see its first “Made in India” semiconductor chip by the end of 2025, with six new semiconductor units in the pipeline.
- A promise of next-generation GST reforms to unwrap as a “double Diwali” gift for citizens, reducing tax burdens.
- A call for influencer-led national efforts under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) and Viksit Bharat (Developed India) missions, aiming for nation-building by 2047.
- He lauded the valor of Operation Sindoor heroes and emphasized India’s commitment to self-reliant defense and strategic autonomy.
Voices of Unity and Support Flow in
Inside India, opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge faced criticism for skipping the Red Fort event, stirring political debate.
International greetings poured in—FBI Director Kash Patel and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended warm felicitations, reaffirming strong India–US ties. Similarly, Singapore’s Foreign Minister bragged about 60 years of deepening cooperation.
A Special Dedication to “Naya Bharat”
This year’s theme, “Naya Bharat”, reflects a future-forward call: a prosperous, secure, and modern India by 2047. Special guests this year included 50 of Delhi’s top sanitation workers—symbolizing dignity of labour and inclusive celebration.
Closing Reflection: Celebrating Freedom, Charting the Future
As the sun sets on August 15, 2025, India stands united not only in remembering its heroes but in embracing a daring vision. From technological leaps to economic reforms, international solidarity to grassroots pride—today was more than a national holiday; it was a rallying cry for a Naya Bharat in the making.
