The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, has rescheduled a part of her visit to West Bengal and is now scheduled to visit Darjeeling on the 7th of March. This visit underscores the significance of cultural heritage, tribal identity, and social development initiatives in the region.
In the visit to North Bengal, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, is a part of a two-day visit to the region, which is focused on the celebration of culture, community outreach, and the promotion of empowerment initiatives. During this visit, the President is expected to attend a number of important events that underscore the uniqueness and heritage of the Darjeeling hills.
An important aspect of this visit is the President’s participation in the 9th International Santal Conference, which is organized by the International Santal Council. This conference is important as it brings together tribal leaders and scholars to discuss the importance of the preservation and protection of tribal culture, language, and traditions. This conference also serves as a forum to discuss the importance of social development and economic opportunities available to the tribal community.
The visit of the President also indicates an intention to recognize and celebrate diversity in India’s cultural scene. The Santal people are one of the largest tribes in India, and their heritage is an important part of India’s cultural scene. By attending this international conference, it is expected that President Murmu will also stress the significance of preserving indigenous culture while promoting development.
Earlier in the visit, it is also scheduled that President Murmu will inaugurate the Darjeeling Hill Festival, which is a cultural festival aimed at celebrating the 150th anniversary of India’s iconic patriotic song, Vande Mataram. The festival will celebrate the cultural diversity of the Himalayan region through performances, exhibitions, and other cultural activities.
In addition, it is also expected that the President will inaugurate an exhibition on ‘Root & Rhythms’ that will be held in Lok Bhavan, Darjeeling. The exhibition will display indigenous art forms, cultural artifacts, and other creative expressions that will reflect the culture of the people of the hills.
Another important aspect of the visit is the virtual launch of a Platinum Jubilee Flagship Programme on Women’s Leadership and Empowerment at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. The program is expected to foster leadership skills in women and boost their involvement in education, governance, and business.
The visit of the President to Darjeeling is also expected to highlight the rich cultural heritage of the region as well as the significance of empowerment and development in the region. This visit is a reflection of the efforts of the government to highlight the importance of heritage and development in the country.
As the region gets ready to receive the President, the event is expected to be a meeting point where the importance of the heritage and the development of the tribal community in the region will be discussed.
