The Indian hospitality and tourism sector is poised for a surge in hiring in the aftermath of robust growth this year, primarily driven by domestic travel, according to industry insiders.
Industry players anticipate accelerated hiring as the Hotel Association of India (HAI) projects the hotel industry’s direct contribution to India’s GDP to reach USD 1 trillion by 2047. Experts foresee a minimum 25% increase in workforce demand, with related industries such as travel, aviation, ticket booking, travel guides, and consultants experiencing heightened demand.
HAI Vice President K B Kachru emphasized the significant milestone of the hotel industry’s direct contribution to India’s GDP, reaching USD 1 trillion by 2047. He noted that this substantial growth will lead to increased job opportunities across diverse skill sets.
Kachru, also Chairman Emeritus & Principal Advisor at South Asia Radisson Hotel Group, highlighted the transformative impact of the pandemic on the hospitality sector. He mentioned a paradigm shift in operations, with a greater emphasis on adaptability, digital innovation, and an increased focus on guest safety and well-being.
Echoing these sentiments, Chalet Hotels Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) Urvi Aradhya observed a post-pandemic employment landscape characterized by technological integration, a focus on health and safety, an emphasis on local tourism, and a shift towards more flexible work arrangements.
Sudeep Sen, Vice President of recruitment agency Gi Group, anticipates a minimum 25% increase in the need for the workforce in the hospitality industry and related sectors. Sen highlighted the rising demand for digital content creators, social media managers, sustainability consultants for hotels and resorts, as well as specialists in vegan food and beverage, spa, and healthcare.
Chander K Baljee, Chairman and Managing Director of Royal Orchid Hotels, noted a significant surge in domestic travel across India leading to an expansion in accommodations across various categories. He mentioned proactive recruitment efforts to meet the growing workforce demand.
